Back-to-School Reminder: Don’t Forget Your Child’s Dental Exam.
As the new school year in Glen Ellyn School District 41, there’s one important health requirement parents should keep in mind: students entering Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 6th grade are required by the State of Illinois to have an oral health examination completed by a licensed dentist.
These exams are more than just a school requirement. Regular dental checkups help identify cavities, gum concerns, bite issues, and other oral health problems early—before they become painful, costly, or disruptive to a child’s school day. A healthy smile supports a child’s overall health, comfort, confidence, and ability to focus in the classroom.
After the exam, the dentist will complete the required State of Illinois dental form, which should be returned to your child’s school health office. District 41 asks that completed forms be submitted no later than May 15 of the school year.
